Who Is Looking For You

Every month, people all over the country type your services into Google. We counted it for 200 towns, cities and counties. Put yours in below and see how many are looking, how you compare with the places around you plus how hard the job would be.

200 places counted. If yours is not listed, tell us and we will pull it for you.

0 searches every month

0different things people type to find this work
0how hard it is to rank there, out of 100, where lower is easier
0where it sits out of the 200 places we counted

How it compares nearby

That is the demand sitting in your patch every month. We can tell you who is picking it up today plus what it would take to be the firm they ring instead.

We have not counted that one yet

Try a nearby larger town. You can also try a county such as Kent or Cheshire. The 200 places above are the busiest ones. There are hundreds more with smaller numbers behind them, plus every single one of them has somebody searching in it.

Send us the name of your patch and we will count it properly, by service, then send it over. You get that whether you go ahead with us or not.

Rounded monthly searches in the UK for gas and heating work carrying each place name, taken from a pull of 10,003 search terms. The 200 places counted here carry 58,330 searches a month between them, with a further 58 places carrying another 1,190. Gas Safe Register logins, training courses, job hunting, manufacturer brands plus everything we refuse to work on are all taken out before counting. Remember that most of this is settled in the map rather than on a website, so the listing work comes first. Numbers change month to month, so treat these as the size of the prize rather than a promise.

Most of your customers never reach a website at all

Why The Map Decides It

When we look at a trade we record what Google actually shows on the results page, not just how many people are searching. In gas work the answer is blunt. Google shows a map with three businesses in it on 69% of the demand we could measure. That is the highest share of any trade we have looked at.

Break it down and it gets starker. Emergency and breakdown searches return a map every single time. Gas fire searches, every single time. Near me searches 96% of the time. Somebody looking for an engineer, 88%. Repairs 93%. Servicing 85%. Boiler work 80%.

Think about what that means on a cold Tuesday morning. A woman with no hot water picks up her phone, types boiler repair, gets a map with three businesses on it plus a list of reviews. She rings one. She never scrolls, she never opens a website, she never sees the page you paid somebody to build. If you are not in that three, you did not exist that morning.

This is why we start with your Google listing rather than your website. The categories, the service area, the hours, the photos, the review flow plus the posts. It is the cheapest work in the whole service to do properly and in your trade it is worth more than everything else put together.

There is one part of your trade that works the opposite way. Landlords asking about gas safety certificates carry 37,080 searches a month plus they almost never get a map. They get an answer written straight onto the results page instead, 69% of the time. Same with anybody asking what something costs, at 83%. Those people are reading rather than ringing, so those pages have to be written as clear factual answers rather than sales pages. We build both sides. They are simply different jobs.

How Our Service Works

Most agencies sell a gas engineer some content plus a monthly report. Content is one line on this list. Here is everything that runs on your account from the first month, all of it inside the same fee.

0169% Of Demand Ends Here

Google Business Profile And Maps

Primary category corrected, every service listed on its own rather than lumped under Plumber, service area drawn properly for a van rather than a shop, hours right including out of hours, plus posts published weekly. In your trade this is worth more than everything else on this list put together.

02What They Read Before Ringing

A Review Programme, Not Review Hope

Somebody letting a stranger into their house to work on gas reads reviews first. We set up the asking: a request after each completed job, a way to handle the ones that go wrong plus a schedule so recency never lapses. Reviews from two years ago do nothing for you.

03Consistency Signals

Citations And Directory Clean-Up

Your name, address plus phone number identical across every directory, trade listing plus aggregator that carries it. Old addresses, dead numbers plus duplicate listings corrected. One of the quietest reasons a firm cannot break into the map.

04Every Quarter, Without Asking

Full Technical Site Audit

Crawl errors, broken links, redirect chains, duplicate titles, missing headings, orphan pages plus anything blocking Google from reading the site. Run every three months then fixed rather than reported, because a list of problems emailed to an engineer is not a service.

05Speed And Mobile

Core Performance Work

Nearly all of this happens on a phone, often by somebody cold and irritated who wants the call button now. We compress images, cut what is loading needlessly, fix layout shift plus make the number reachable with a thumb. Slow sites lose calls you already earned.

06Proof Of Work

Case Studies And Job Photography

Real installs, real repairs, the before plus the after, the make of boiler plus the type of property. Named, described plus marked up so they can be found rather than sitting in a gallery nobody reaches. Photos also feed the Google listing, which is where they earn most.

07For The Landlord Half

Schema Markup And AI Optimisation

LocalBusiness, service area, registration held, services, reviews plus FAQ markup throughout. This matters most on the landlord and certificate pages, where Google answers on the page itself 69% of the time. Being the source that answer is built from is the only way to win that half.

08The Architecture

Internal Linking Structure

Job pages linked to a hub, the hub linked back to the service page, related pages linked to each other plus everything pointing authority where it earns. Free to do, entirely within our control plus neglected on nearly every engineer's site we audit.

09The Content Layer

A Page Per Job You Take

Boiler repair, boiler replacement, annual servicing, landlord certificates, cooker and hob fitting, gas fires, central heating plus emergency callouts. Each given a real page rather than a line on a services list, because Google cannot rank you for a job you have not written about.

10Turning Visits Into Calls

CTAs And Sales Funnels On Ranking Pages

Once a page ranks the job changes. We add the calls to action, the booking routes plus the quote request paths that turn a visitor into a job in the diary. A page that ranks and converts nothing is unfinished work.

11Fixing What Is Already There

Rebuilding Pages That Do Not Rank

Every site arrives with pages that earn nothing. We identify them, then rewrite, merge or redirect rather than leaving dead weight sitting there. Frequently the fastest gain available in the first quarter.

12Included, Not Extra

Website Management And Development

We build the pages, make the changes plus look after the site. No waiting on a separate web person, no change requests in a queue, no invoice for a new page when you add a service line. If the site needs work to rank, the work is inside the fee.

1337,080 Searches A Month

Landlord And Letting Agent Pages

The certificate world is the biggest single opportunity in your data outside the map. Landlords, letting agents plus property managers asking what the rules are, what it costs plus how often it is needed. Written as clear factual answers, because that is what gets quoted back to them.

14Two Posts A Week

Social Media, Managed

Managed rather than abandoned, with the content reused on the website plus the Google listing so it earns three times. Finished jobs, tidy pipework plus a face people recognise do more for a domestic trade than any amount of written reassurance.

Plus a written update every three weeks so you always know what has been done, a full audit every quarter plus monthly reporting on positions, map visibility, enquiries and calls. One fee, no add-ons, nothing billed separately.

More than half of it is not your customer

Where We Will Not Spend Your Money

The raw pull for your trade shows 549,040 searches a month. We threw away 58% of it. That is the most we have ever had to strip out of a trade, past solar which held the record.

The single biggest problem is the Gas Safe Register itself. 134,860 searches a month are people trying to log in, check a card, look up a number or find the logo. They are not looking for an engineer, they are looking for a website that is not yours plus never will be. Another 68,040 are people who want to become a gas engineer, searching courses, wages plus apprenticeships. Then there are gas turbines, engines, gasoline, boiler manufacturers, energy suppliers, plus software and insurance being sold to you rather than by you.

This matters because it is exactly what a weak agency puts in front of you. Half a million searches on a slide looks like an enormous market. Strip it back and 231,000 remain, which is still a lot of work sitting there, plus now every one of them is somebody who might actually ring you.

One thing we take out on principle rather than because it is useless. Anybody searching about a gas leak or the smell of gas needs the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, not a marketing page trying to catch their eye. We refuse those searches at any volume, along with carbon monoxide symptoms. We also will not publish anything that helps an unregistered person work on gas. If an agency offers you that traffic, that tells you what you need to know about them.

The Demand Behind Each Job

Nobody searches for a gas engineer as an idea. They search the job they need doing. Sometimes they search for somebody nearby who can do it. Here is how much of each there is, how hard each one is to win out of 100, plus how often Google shows a map instead of a list of websites.

Two things worth saying plainly. First, the job groups look small next to the two big ones at the top because most people search for a person rather than a task, usually with a town attached. That is why the local work matters more here than the service pages. Second, commercial and catering gas barely registers at 120 searches a month across three terms. Real work exists, though it is won through contracts, letting agents plus word of mouth rather than through Google. We will not pretend otherwise or build you a commercial section with nothing behind it.

Four steps, then we keep going every month

Getting Started

STEP 01

We fix the listing first

Categories, services, service area, hours, photos plus the review flow. In your trade this is where two thirds of the demand is settled, so it is where we start rather than where we finish.

STEP 02

We pull your own numbers

Your towns, your service lines, with how hard each one is to win. Register logins, course hunters plus gas turbines stripped out before anybody sets a target.

STEP 03

We build the site out

A page for every job you take, the landlord and certificate pages written as clear factual answers, the technical faults fixed plus your work photographed and marked up properly.

STEP 04

We keep at it

An update every three weeks, a full audit every quarter, monthly reporting plus calls to action added to pages as they start ranking. Nothing here is a one-off project.

What would it take to cover the fee

Run The Arithmetic

Drag the sliders to your own numbers. If you are after landlord contracts rather than one-off calls, use the value of a year of that customer rather than a single certificate. This is a rough illustration to think with, not a promise of results.

SEO for gas engineers, answered

Frequently Asked

Is this just adding pages to my website?
No. Pages are one part of it, plus in your trade they are not even the biggest part. A Google map appears on 69% of the demand we could measure, which is the highest share of any trade we have looked at. Emergency and breakdown searches return a map every single time. So the work starts with your listing, your categories, your service area, your citations plus a proper review process. Alongside that runs a full technical audit every quarter, speed and mobile work, case study photography, schema markup, internal linking, landlord certificate pages, rebuilding pages that do not rank, adding calls to action to pages that do, website development, AI optimisation plus your social accounts. Fourteen workstreams in total, all inside the same fee.
Why does my Google listing matter more than my website?
Because in this trade most people never reach a website. Near me searches return a map on 96% of measured volume. Searches for an engineer return one on 88%. Emergency and breakdown searches return one on 100%. Somebody with no heating on a Tuesday morning taps the top three in the map then rings them. If your listing has the wrong categories, a vague service area or reviews that stopped two years ago, you are not in that three however good the website is. That is why the listing is workstream one rather than an afterthought.
What about landlord gas safety certificate work?
That part of your trade behaves completely differently, so it is worth building for separately. Landlord and safety certificate terms carry 37,080 searches a month. A map appears on only 13% of measured volume while Google writes an answer straight onto the page 69% of the time, because landlords are asking about the rules rather than looking for a van. Cost and quote terms are the same shape at 83%. Those pages have to be written as clear factual answers so a machine will quote them, which is a different job from ranking a service page. Both sides are inside the same fee.
Why was more than half the data thrown away?
Because 318,040 of the 549,040 searches in the raw file are not your customers, which is the highest proportion we have found in any trade. 134,860 of them are people trying to reach the Gas Safe Register itself, to log in, check a card or find the logo. A further 68,040 are people who want to become a gas engineer rather than hire one. The rest is gas engines and turbines, boiler manufacturers, energy suppliers, software and insurance sold to engineers, plus a large amount of pure noise. Any agency quoting you half a million searches for this trade has not opened the file.
Will you target gas leak and emergency searches?
No. Somebody who can smell gas needs the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, not a marketing page competing for their attention. We refuse those terms at any volume, along with carbon monoxide poisoning and symptom searches. We also will not publish anything that would help an unregistered person work on a gas appliance, which is dangerous as well as unlawful. Emergency work such as no heating or no hot water is a completely different thing plus we build for it properly, since every one of those searches returns a map and somebody is ringing within minutes.
How much does it cost and what do I get?
£350 a month for one base plus your service area, with all fourteen workstreams included: Google Business Profile and Maps, reviews, citations, quarterly technical audits, speed and mobile work, case studies, schema, internal linking, job pages, landlord certificate pages, CTAs and funnels, rebuilding underperforming pages, website management and development, AI optimisation plus social media. No setup fee, nothing billed separately plus no charge for a new page when you add a service line. Larger plans cover wider areas and multi-van operations. Worth comparing against what local SEO typically costs.
